It started on a napkin

In 2011 we were consultants working together on a project for a nonprofit. One afternoon at a café, we started talking about starting an agency that made marketing more fun, both for the people doing it and the people on the receiving end.

So we did what you do at a café. We grabbed a stack of napkins and started writing down words. Lots of words, and most of them we're not great ideas. Then we started mashing pairs together, and two of them stuck.

Yodel

Yodeling is how people in the mountains called across a valley. You had to be heard a long way off, by people you couldn't see.

That's still a big part of marketing. These days the valley is email, your website, search, AI answers, social media and whatever channel shows up next, and the job is the same: get the message to the people who need it.

Pop

Pop is what happens when the message arrives. It stands out, it's clear, and people know what to do with it, instead of it getting lost with everything else in their inbox.

About the name Yodelpop - napkin brainstorm in 2011

And the domain was available

We put the two words together and checked whether yodelpop.com was taken. It wasn't, and in 2011 that was enough to make it official.

So why do organizations pick us?

Most of our work today is less yodeling and more data models, email deliverability and connecting donor and member databases to HubSpot. Here's why nonprofits and associations work with us:

  • Most of our clients are nonprofits and associations, so you won't have to explain why one person can be a donor, a member and a volunteer at the same time.
  • We built our own HubSpot integrations, RaiserSync for Raiser's Edge NXT and YourMemberSync for YourMembership, so donor and member data is everyday work for us.
  • We're a HubSpot Platinum Solutions Partner and have been a HubSpot partner since 2013.
  • Our onboarding has a fixed price and every deliverable is named, so you know what you're getting before you sign.
  • The people who plan your project are the same people who build it.

We take that work seriously. We just don't think it has to be dull, and we still think marketing should be a little fun.

And no, none of us can yodel. Sorry?
